This game ruined my week.

I used to yearn for this game. You see, I'm a 23-ish years old boy who's living in my parents house, shamelessly doing nothing "significant" without any source of income. I technically couldn't; I'm waiting for my Mandatory Military Service to begin few month later (context: I'm South Korean), and not many job, part-time or not, was not very viable for me right now.

So I'm living with around $4 per day, which is (Balance left from my earning years before; ~$400) / (Days left; ~100). And I promised myself to buy this game when I finally have a twice($30) of the game price($15). I had to try this game before the enlistment; By the time I get out of that place (~1.5y later), the game would go sour, no matter great it was.

And it was 22nd May, when the followings happened simultaneously.

I don't know what'll happen in my future, but this might be one of the most ironic day of my life.

Sorry for this rambling about my personal thing, it was too funny to not talk about.

I'm no game designer, nor a good game reviewer. I believe I have a very tilted taste on games. So just see this page as 'there's these things in this game I guess' kinda thing, something you can read before buying this game.

I loved how replayable & clear the game was. Each elements of the game -- jokers, enhancements, vouchers and such -- was clear, concise and honest. And yet massive in quantity, thanks to the developer's effort. This made making strategy & combining effects of the cards very addictive and enjoyable.

The game loop goes like this:

  1. I planned A B C D
  2. I got A B C D
  3. but I failed
  4. so I'll try A B C' D' next time
  5. which I'll replay right now. One more blind!

The honesty of the game would not be possible without its tolerance to "hacking the game." It is implied by exponentially increaing number of "chips" required for each "ante" -- it means that the amount of scores you need to get from your playing cards increases exponentially each stage of a game. From 300, through 10000, to whoppin' 1e20. (1 with 20 digits of 0)

It's both suprising and taunting to players; "That much??" and, "Wait... that much? I have to make?"

I've yet to beat ante 12 (= stage 12 of the game), 1e8 chips are too big of a wall. (the wall, get it?)

I'm currently trying some flush deck, with some useful retriggering jokers, and related xmults, & +chips, with some obligatory copycats.

There might be more effective combinations. I vould search it 'vcourse, but I wish to discover myself.

I can see myself enjoying this game more than I should. I feels like I'm rediscovering factorio, and I love it ♥️.
